In 2018, Twos Company Interior Design was asked to design the Hotel Room of the Future at the Independent Hotel Show. Twos Company Interior Design is run by Gilly Craft of Koubou Interiors and Nick Sunderland of NS Interiors. Both Registered Interior Designers with the BIID (British Institute of Interior Design) and Gilly was the President of the Institute 2018 -2019.

The organisers of the Independent Hotel Show were very pleased by the installation and so in 2019, they asked the duo to design the VIP Suite for the show.

This was a very different brief in that this space was going to be used by the VIPs and was not a stand. It had to include sitting areas, a conference table and a bar. There was a very tight brief on how many seats were required and the constraints that Gilly and Nick had to work within.

There was no requirement for technology this time but there was a requirement for comfort and luxury.

Suppliers were selected for their beautiful fixtures and fittings and their willingness to collaborate on this large and exciting installation.

Although there wasn’t a lot that could be changed with the floor plan, the designers were keen to do something different and so a central piece was designed. This was constructed from five panels of Corian carved into a tree design and then suspended in a box covered in a faux leather finish. Lighting was included in the design as well as planting.

A stunning pagola with hand blown glass lamps was designed by Northern Lights that would span the conference table. Although this was probably the most difficult piece to install, it was worth the time and trouble as it was a truly stunning piece.

Bespoke tables were designed to Twos Company specification by Alroys and Nature Squared. These tables were beautifully made from different feathers, dyed and then set into the table tops. The bases were in a spray painted cut out design that was unique and certainly a talking point. The chairs were manufactured by a variety of companies including Red Room, Robert Langford and Sofa.Com. The fabrics, some of which had been specially printed for the occasion came from Panaz,Edinburgh Weavers and Cole and Son. The wall coverings were innovative and showed the new collections from Versa, Cole and Son and Arte. Smart Coverings who also fitted the faux leather on the centre piece, installed a beautiful feature wall behind the pergola. Havwoods and Axminster supplied the flooring, Axminster weaving a bespoke carpet to the design. A beautiful lion sculpture by Edge ‘guarded’ the entrance to the Suite but sadly didn’t roar! A unique and brilliant design by the Twos Company team. It was such a shame to see it dismantled after only two days but it has got people talking and at the end of the day, that is what Gilly and Nick wanted.
