Art Deco Inspired Bathroom Redesign

Koubou Interiors were asked to help a client in London with redesigning the family bathroom in this five bedroom home, with an art deco inspiration.

The bathroom in this five bedroom house had last been updated over twenty years ago. It was not only tired but some elements of the sanitary ware had ceased to function properly. The client had not been involved in a project before and needed a lot of hand-holding but she had a healthy budget and was very open to all suggestions.

The brief included removing the bath and installing a walk-in shower in its place, mood lighting and a modern design with an Art Deco twist. A mixture of wall and floor treatments were used; patterned floor tiles from Fired Earth, together with metro tiles in a herringbone design to complement the design in the vinyl wall covering. The sanitary ware was sourced from Bette and Drench and the storage from Duravit.

The whole scheme was pulled together with a complementary lighting scheme offering mood as well as good task lighting. The storage cabinet, taps and accessories were coloured black to complement the rest of the design and he shower panels had a critical style frame in black rather than a plain screen to add to the drama of the design. There were challenges, there always are and this project was no exception – pipes and water pressure issues had to be solved with a new pump system and some new pipe work. You don’t need colour in a bathroom to add drama – clever use of texture and materials works just as well.
