Pantone’s colour of the year has been announced as Living Coral, but how can we use a “trendy” colour in our homes, if we want to be a trendsetter?

As an interior designer, I often find trends to be a passing phase, and prefer to help clients with their personal tastes rather than fleeting designs and colours which may not suit their preferences and home. However, there can be fun ways to utilise trends if you like them.

As you will see, Living Coral may not suit every person’s home and style, it’s an incredibly bright shade, so I recommend you start by using this purely as an accent. You can start with upholstery items such as cushions, or find vases to lift an area in your home without bringing out the paintbrush. This colour can work well if you have oak furniture or floor already in your space. An occasional small chair in the coral colour as part of the scheme, could also work well.

This is why I love interior design so much, as we can utilise your preferences and make them work for you in your space – whether you wish to be a trend setter, or not.
